Tampa Laser Hair Removal & Electrolysis
PCOS Hair Removal: Managing Hirsutism
Hormone-driven hair is stubborn, but it is manageable. Here is how laser and electrolysis help, and what to realistically expect.
The Honest Answer
Yes, laser hair removal and electrolysis genuinely help with PCOS-related hair. Because hormones keep signaling the follicles, it usually takes more sessions and occasional maintenance than it would for someone without a hormonal imbalance, but the reduction is real and life-changing for many people.
You're Not Alone
PCOS and Unwanted Hair
Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the most common causes of hormonal imbalance in women, and one of its most frustrating symptoms is excess hair growth, known as hirsutism. It happens because PCOS raises androgen levels, and androgens are the hormones that drive coarse hair growth in areas where men typically grow hair.
If this is you, please know two things: it is extremely common, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. We treat PCOS-related hair every week at our Tampa studio, and we do it with zero judgment and complete discretion. It is simply one of the things we are here for.
PCOS-driven hair most often shows up on the:
- Chin, jawline, and upper lip
- Cheeks and sideburn area
- Neck, chest, and around the areola
- Stomach and lower back
The Root Cause
PCOS raises androgen levels, and those hormones keep signaling follicles to grow. That is why the hair feels relentless, and why a plan built around it works better than a standard course.

Two Tools, One Studio
How We Treat PCOS Hair
There is no single right method for hormonal hair. Because we run both laser and electrolysis under one roof, we can use whichever fits your hair, and often both together.

Laser · For Dark, Coarse Hair
Reduces the Bulk
Laser is efficient on the dark, coarse hair PCOS often produces, thinning density across the chin, jaw, neck, and body over a series of sessions.
- Fast on dark, coarse hair
- Best for larger areas
Electrolysis · For What Laser Misses
Catches Every Hair
The answer for white, grey, red, or light blonde hairs laser cannot see, and the only FDA-permanent method. Ideal for finishing and for lighter facial hair.
- Works on any hair color
- The only FDA-permanent method
For many people with PCOS, the best results come from laser reducing the bulk and electrolysis clearing the rest. We build that plan with you.

What Results to Expect With PCOS
Honesty matters here. PCOS hair behaves differently, so we plan for it rather than overpromising.

More Sessions
Because hormones keep activating follicles, PCOS hair usually needs more treatments than average to reach the reduction you want.
Maintenance
Many people keep results steady with a maintenance session every 6 to 12 months, since ongoing hormonal activity can prompt new growth.
Real Reduction
The goal is thinner, slower, far less visible hair. That is very achievable, and for most people it is a dramatic quality-of-life change.
It is also worth asking your doctor whether managing your hormone levels alongside treatment makes sense. More stable hormones tend to mean more dramatic, longer-lasting results.

Questions
PCOS Hair Removal FAQs
Does laser hair removal work if I have PCOS?
Yes. It works well for PCOS-related hair, especially the dark, coarse growth on the chin, jaw, and body. Because hormones keep signaling follicles, you will usually need more sessions and occasional maintenance, but the reduction is real and meaningful.
Will the hair grow back?
Some new growth is possible over time, because ongoing hormonal activity can activate dormant follicles. Most people still see a strong reduction, and maintenance sessions keep new growth in check. The goal is thinner, slower, far less visible hair rather than zero regrowth forever.
Should I get my hormones under control first?
It can help. Ask the doctor managing your PCOS whether stabilizing your hormone levels before or during treatment is right for you. Many people begin while managing the condition and still do very well, so it is not a requirement, just a helpful conversation.
What about light or fine facial hair from PCOS?
Laser cannot treat white, grey, red, or light blonde hair. Electrolysis can, and it is often the right tool for lighter or finer PCOS-related facial hair, either on its own or alongside laser.
Is it safe for dark skin?
Yes. Our Nd:YAG laser is well suited to melanin-rich skin, so you get results without the burn and hyperpigmentation risks that come from using the wrong device.
A note on medical information: This page is for educational purposes and is not medical advice. PCOS is a medical condition that varies from person to person. For diagnosis or treatment of PCOS or a hormonal imbalance, please consult your physician. Laser and electrolysis manage unwanted hair; they do not treat the underlying condition.
